I was shopping for a flight from YYC to LGA and was initially happy to find several options for $450 (which is the regular fare and it is reasonable). However, when I tried to book it an error message informed me that the price has changed (blaming the airline for changing it while I was booking).

The updated price was a hefty $1300! I repeatedly tried to start from scratch, tried different combinations, flights, airlines, etc. Every time the price would shoot up by more than double. This is looking more and more like false advertising.

I understand that the airline changes prices on a whim, but Expedia is in no hurry to update their posted prices - they took several hours to do so. In the meantime, you think you will get the posted price, maybe make some plans, maybe book a hotel.. and then, surprise, they ask for more, always more, it's never less.

I would not recommend booking anything on expedia. There are other websites out there, and if you really see a good deal, maybe look it up on the airline's own website.

What false advertising? Expedia is not the airline, you realize that.

Your are asking Expedia to go to the airline and purchase a ticket for you. That is why even if you book with Expedia they may come back and tell you the booking was not accepted.

As to what you are saying, Expedia told you in their terms of use that "Airfare is only guaranteed once the purchase has been completed and the tickets have been issued. Airlines and other travel suppliers may change their prices without notice." Expedia is not sitting there changing prices, but is reflecting what the airlines says it charges.

If you watch stock ticker prices on television, you will see that most are 15 minutes behind the actual trade. Are the television stations liars? In the same way, Expedia prices may for a short time be behind the prices charged by the airline. When you went to buy they checked the price and told you what the price was at that moment.

What is dishonest about that. If you thought the Expedia website price quoted when you went to buy was not correct, why didn't you simply go to the airline's website and check there. That is the best practice anyway.

Use these websites to find the flights, then buy directly from the airlines.

If a person makes hotel reservations or other plans without having a ticket firmly in hand, that is just very risky and not very smart. JrOrlando

They boost rate on their site and cut it to make you think you get a deal. My friend manages hotels and he say the price they offer is the price the Expedia give you and takes commissions for referral. So they put price like $157 and slash it to like 119 make you think you have a discount but if you book with hotel it’s 119 regular
